Jeff Porcaro, an esteemed drummer, session musician, and songwriter, passed away on August 5, 1992, at the age of 38. Born in Hartford, CT, Jeff started playing drums at the age of 6. He quickly developed a reputation for his natural talent, gaining recognition both in the United States and abroad.
After graduating from Grant High School in Van Nuys, California, Jeff began his career at the age of 19 when he joined the group Steely Dan on their "Aja" tour in 1977. Over the course of his career, he established himself as one of the greatest session drummers of all time, having worked with some of the most iconic and influential musicians, including Boz Scaggs, Paul McCartney, Lionel Richie, Eric Clapton, and Toto.
Jeff's long list of credentials includes seven Grammy Awards and numerous platinum and gold albums and singles, making him one of the most respected and accomplished musicians of his generation.
Jeff spent the last year of his life in the recording studio and on tour with Toto. He is survived by his wife, police officer Karen Porcaro, and their three children, Stephen, Francisco, and Sophia. His prodigious talent, his passion for music, and his remarkable legacy will never be forgotten.
