She was an iconic actress known for her role as Edith Bunker in the CBS classic comedy series "All in the Family," for which she won three Emmy Awards. She started working in theater in the 1940s and soon became a familiar face on Broadway. She received a Tony Award nomination in 1961 for her role in "Damn Yankees." During the 1970s, Stapleton found fame with her role in "All in the Family," solidifying her place in television history. Following the show's conclusion in 1979, she continued to act on television and in film, appearing in a variety of shows from "Family Affair" to "ER" over the subsequent decades. Across her career, Jean Stapleton was widely praised for her comedic talents and versatility. She won three Emmy Awards, two Golden Globe Awards, and several other accolades. She was known for her warmth and spirit and will be fondly remembered by her fans.
