Jackson Pollock, one of the most influential and celebrated American abstract expressionist painters of the 20th century, died on August 11, 1956 at the age of 44. Multitalented and revolutionary, Pollock employed a unique painting procedure by inundating the canvas in a free-form porch of vibrant colors. His famous “drip” technique included simultaneous painting and pouring or dripping paint onto the canvas in innovative patterns. Jackson Pollock re-defined the potential of painting and had a remarkable influence on succeeding generations of artists from across the world. Born in Cody, Wyoming in 1912 and growing up in Arizona and California, Jackson Pollock achieved fame in the 1940s through artwork highlighting chaotic compositions of vibrant colors. He was committed to depicting the immediacy and vitality of emotionally charged artwork. Jackson Pollock's artistic contributions empowered abstract expressionists throughout the world as well as other movements that followed such as op art and minimalism. His legacy continues to be acknowledged with his paintings selling for record sums at auction. He is survived by his family and the numerous painters and art lovers he has inspired over the years.

There is a sacredness in tears. They are not the mark of weakness, but of power. They speak more eloquently than ten thousand tongues. They are the messengers of overwhelming grief, of deep contrition, and of unspeakable love. Washington Irving
