Jack Elam, legendary actor of the silver screen, has passed away. He died on October 20, 2003 at the age of 82. Elam has a storied career that began in 1953 with a role in the sci-fi classic "Rocketship X-M". He began as a character actor but rose to fame portraying grizzled, western roles in films such as "Rio Lobo" and "Gunfight at the O. K. Corral". In television, Elam played weasly Sheriff Elmer Fudd in "The Good Guys" in 1968. Elam's iconic roles over his five-decade career earned him an Academy Award nomination for supporting actor in 1971. He also received a Golden Globe nomination for Best Supporting Actor in the 1983 TV-movie "The Executioner's Song". Elam was born in Arizona in1920. He is survived by his wife Marilyn (nee Baron), and his four children: Eric, Jimmy Joe, Jennifer, and Hannah. Jack Elam will be remembered as one of the truly great character actors in film and TV, leaving an indelible mark on the silver screen and in the heart of audiences everywhere.
