On February 12, 2022, Ivan Reitman – beloved director, producer, and screenwriter – passed away at the age of 69 at his home in Los Angeles, California. Throughout his 50-year career in the entertainment industry, Reitman gained international recognition for his immensely successful comedy films, including Stripes (1981), Ghostbusters (1984), Twins (1988), Kindergarten Cop (1990), and Dave (1993). He was active in television, film, and the theater. Ivan Reitman was born in Czechoslovakia on October 27, 1952, and emigrated to Canada at the age of 4. Raised in Toronto, he developed a passion for the arts and excelled as an accomplished pianist. After studying economics at McMaster University, he began his career in Los Angeles directing television episodes for popular shows such as "The Six Million Dollar Man" and "Kojak". His most notable contribution to film was for producing the popular Ghostbusters franchise. He directed the first two films and later executive produced the third instalment released in 2016. He also achieved success in other genres, including drama. Reitman was executive producer for the Academy Award-winning Netflix movie, Roma (2018). He was a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and served as a producer of the Academy Awards. He will be remembered for his countless contributions to the world of entertainment. He is survived by his wife Genie and their three children.
