Henry Miller, a prolific American writer and artist, passed away on June 7, 1980, at the age of 88. He was born on December 26, 1891, in Yorkville, New York, to Heinrich and Louise Miller. After a brief stint in college, Miller traveled to Paris where he began his literary career. Throughout his lifetime, Miller wrote over 40 books, including the controversial novel "Tropic of Cancer" which was banned in the United States for over 20 years. Despite this, Miller gained international recognition for his bold and honest writing style, delving into themes of sexuality, spirituality, and the human experience. Aside from writing, Miller was also an accomplished artist, experimenting with watercolors, oil paintings, and collage. His artwork often reflected the same provocative and raw style as his writing, making him a notable figure in both the literary and art worlds. Although Miller's work sparked much debate and criticism, he remained true to his own creative vision and continued to write until the end of his life. He leaves behind a legacy of being one of the most influential and groundbreaking writers of his time. Miller is survived by his wife, Janina Martha Lepska, and his two children, Tony and Valentine. He will be remembered for his daring and unapologetic approach to art and literature.
