On November 03rd, 1954, Henri Émile Benoît Matisse passed away at the age of 84. He was a legendary French artist whose work spanned from the late 19th century into the early 1950s. Matisse is celebrated in the annals of art history for his contributions to modern art, especially through the use of bold colors. He emerged in the French avant-garde movement of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, known as Fauvism, for which he is widely recognized as the leader. His career and artistic achievements moved many and touched hearts of a multitude of fans. Matisse completed a wide range of art through various mediums, including painting, sculpting, collage, and paper cut-outs. These works expressed a versatile artist who understood the power of design with the purest of colors. His works became the epitome of modern art, a figurehead of eras to come. Henri Matisse spent the last years of his life residing in Nice, France, and was buried in his hometown of Le Cateau-Cambrésis. He will be remembered for his liveliness and decluttered approach to art, which influenced thousands of future enthusiasts.
