Heath Ledger, born in 1979 in Perth, Australia, passed away on January 22, 2008 at 28 years old. Ledger was an actor and director best known for his film roles in "10 Things I Hate About You" (1999), "Brokeback Mountain" (2005) and "The Dark Knight" (2008). He received several awards for his outstanding work, including an Academy Award, a Golden Globe Award, and a Screen Actors Guild Award for Best Supporting Actor. Prior to acting, Ledger studied photography and worked on sales. He attended the National Institute of Dramatic Arts in Sydney in his late teens. His stage career began in Australia before he shifted to the United States in 1998, where he worked in the television movie, Roar. Ledger left behind a long list of popular films and is remembered for his performances of a wide variety of characters.
