It is with great sadness that we share the passing of Harry S Truman, who died on December 26th, 1972, at the age of 88. Harry S Truman was born in Lamar, Missouri on May 8th, 1884. He attended the University of Kansas City Law School and initially worked as a farmer and storekeeper before serving in World War I. Following his service, he was a judge of the Jackson County Court, and later a United States Senator from Missouri before assuming the role of Vice President in 1945. Most famously, Harry S Truman went on to serve as the 33rd President of the United States from 1945 until 1953. During his time in office, he made ceaseless efforts to shape and improve the lives of Americans, delivering progressive reforms in crucial areas like labor rights, foreign policy, and civil rights. He rose to the fore of America’s public consciousness during this time, earning himself the nickname of “The People’s President”. President Truman is credited for many crucial policy decisions and initiatives during his time in office, most notably the successful prosecution of World War II and the initiation of the Marshall Plan to rebuild Europe following its devastation. Following his presidency, Harry S Truman retired to his home state of Missouri in 1953 where he avidly pursued his interest in history and politics, and published his two-volume memoir of his years in office in 1956. Harry S Truman's life was a life of service, leadership and legacy. His passing is mourned by the entire nation.
