Harold Lloyd (1893-1971) passed away on 8th March 1971 at the age of 77. He was an influential actor, producer and director during the silent-film era of early cinema. The films that Lloyd created, most notably in the 1920s, established him as a major international comic star. Lloyd was noted for his comedic timing, his adventurous artistry and use of daring stunts. He frequently worked with Theodore Roberts and Bebe Daniels, and was seen as the successor to Charlie Chaplin. Many of his films remain celebrated today for their creativity and visual flair, such as Safety Last! and Grandma's Boy. His debut feature film, Why Worry? won the 1924 Academy Award for Unique and Artistic Production, and his public image was enhanced in 1949 with the creation of the Harold Lloyd Trust with United Artists. Lloyd was an innovative and influential figure in film, who helped shape the comedic style of early cinema. He will be fondly remembered by generations of film fans.
