Haile Selassie I, the former Emperor of Ethiopia, passed away on August 27th, 1975 in the presence of his family at the age of 83. He was born on July 23rd, 1892 in Ethiopia to parents Ras Makonnen Woldemikael Gudessa and Weyziro Menen Asfaw. He was the last ruling monarch of the Solomonic Dynasty. Haile Selassie I was the Regent of Ethiopia from 1916 to 1930, and became the Emperor in 1930, until his overthrow in 1974. He was widely praised by Ethiopians and international supporters for bringing the country into the modern era by introducing economic, social, and educational reforms. In addition, he was a key figure in the League of Nations, which eventually formed the United Nations. Haile Selassie I was known for his strong leadership and commitment to strengthening Ethiopia’s place in the world. Despite his death, his legacy of progress and military strength will be remembered for many years to come.
