Gustav Theodore Holst, composer and educator, died on May 25, 1934, at the age of 59. He was born on September 21, 1874, in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, England. Holst studied music at the Royal College of Music in London with composer Charles Villiers Stanford. He was an influential figure in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, and he was widely recognized for his orchestral works, such as "The Planets" and "The Hymn of Jesus". Holst also wrote songs and chamber works, as well as music for theater and cinema. In addition, he composed choral works and music for the mandolin. Holst was also an accomplished conductor, and he was a professor at the St Paul's Girls' School for 26 years. Holst was well respected in his field, and his work had a major impact on the development of classical music throughout the world. He will be remembered for his contributions to the art of composition.
