Lonnie David Franklin Jr., known as the "Grim Sleeper," passed away March 28, 2020, at the age of 67. Franklin was convicted in 2016 of murdering nine women and of the attempted murder of another between 1985 and 2007. He was dubbed the Grim Sleeper because of the 14-year break between killings, attributed to his imprisonment for an unrelated crime. Franklin was born on August 30, 1952 in South Los Angeles. He worked as a refuse collector in a municipal garage and had been a member of the Los Angeles Police Department reserve corps. His victims were primarily African American women in their twenties, thirties and forties. Their bodies were found between 1985 and 2007 in South Los Angeles, Inglewood and unincorporated Los Angeles County, many of them nude and/or showing signs of sexual assault. In 2010, Franklin was arrested in the killing of Janecia Peters, whose body was found in a trash bag in 2008. A breakthrough in the cold case came when the Los Angeles Police Department was able to link the DNA Franklin left at the crime scene to DNA from the other deaths. Franklin was sentenced to death in 2016 and remained in jail until his death. Franklin is survived by his legal team.

Death is the ultimate boundary of human matters. Horace
