Grant Imahara, an electrical engineer, roboticist, and host, passed away on July 13th, 2020 at the age of 49. Grant began his career at Lucasfilm's THX division, where he worked on maintaining the robotic animatronic character named 'Mutt Williams' in the third installment of the Indiana Jones film series. He then joined Industrial Light and Magic's R&D department, leading the engineering division and working on projects such as the Star Wars prequel trilogy, Terminator 3, The Matrix Revolutions, and Van Helsing. It was at the popular Discovery Channel television show Mythbusters that Grant gained a large and devoted fan base. He held starring roles on Mythbusters from 2005 to 2014, becoming an integral part of the cast. His death leaves behind a legacy of joy, enthusiasm, and intellectual curiosity. Grant was involved in other outlets such as the Netflix original series White Rabbit Project. He also volunteered for FIRST Robotics, an organization dedicated to encouraging youth interest in STEM fields. Grant's commitment to the sciences and his enthusiasm for creative problem solving will be greatly missed. May his memory continue to live on in the thousands of lives he touched.
