Gordon Moore, renowned engineer and co-founder of Intel Corporation, died on 2023-03-24 at the age of 94. Born in San Francisco, California in 1928, Moore earned a Bachelor of Science from University of California, Berkeley, in 1950, and a Ph.D. in Chemistry from California Institute of Technology in 1954. Most notably, Moore co-founded Intel Corporation in 1968, along with Bob Noyce. He served as president of the company from 1979–1987 and as its CEO and Chairman until 1998. During his tenure as CEO, Moore championed the concept of a "computer on a chip," an idea that led to the development of the microprocessor. Moore served on the Board of Directors from 1999–2011. In 1965, Moore published a ground-breaking article, 'Cramming More Components onto Integrated Circuits,' whereby he predicted a consistent doubling of components would occur every two years, now known as "Moore's law". This forecast has since been a staple in the tech industry, allowing it to become a tremendous force of economic growth and global development. A recipient of the Presidential Medal of Freedom, Moore is also well known for his philanthropic activities, including significant contributions to charitable organizations. Moore is survived by his wife, Betty, and their three children.
