Gloria Vanderbilt (1924-2019) passed away in her home in Manhattan, New York on June 17, 2019. She was 95 years old. The daughter of Reginald Claypoole Vanderbilt and Gloria Morgan, Vanderbilt was born in New York City and inherited a large fortune from her father upon his death when she was a young girl. This set her up for a lifelong career of fame, wealth, and notoriety. Throughout her life Vanderbilt lived fully, having many famous relationships and four marriages, writing books - which included two autobiographies - and designing for her eponymous clothing line. She particularly focused on the role of women in society, making a name for herself as an empowered female presence through her art, fashion, and activism. Vanderbilt is survived by her son Anderson Cooper, her two grandchildren, and her many admirers who followed her long-lived legacy.

No one really knows why they are alive until they know what they’d die for. Martin Luther King Jr.
