Ginger Baker, renowned musician and drummer, died on October 6th, 2019, at the age of 80. The London-born Baker first rose to prominence in the 1960’s, performing with seminal psychedelic blues-rock group Cream. An early pioneer of ‘power-trio’ instrumental dynamics, Baker will be remembered for his intense technical ability and propelling rhythms. His long-form solo at the beginning of Cream’s ‘Toad’ is renowned for its virtuosity, earning him command over the drum kit. Baker went on to perform in other endeavors, most notably in his middle-eastern inspired band Airforce. He recorded several solo albums and dabbled in free-jazz, collaborating with the likes of Bill Laswell. He is survived by his four children and fourth wife Kudzai. He will be dearly remembered for his prowess as a drummer and for his singularly powerful fusion of musical styles.

Try as much as possible to be wholly alive with all your might, and when you laugh, laugh like hell. And when you get angry, get good and angry. Try to be alive. You will be dead soon enough. William Saroyan
