Gilles Deleuze (1925-1995), the French philosopher and writer, passed away on November 4, 1995 at the age of 70. He was widely known for his contributions to the fields of literature and philosophy, particularly in the realm of poststructuralism. His works largely focused on identity, difference, and language, with books such as Difference and Repetition (1968) and Capitalism and Schizophrenia (1972). During his career, Deleuze was the Chair of Philosophy at the University of Paris-Vincennnes from 1970 to 1987. In January 1994, Deleuze was awarded the title of Docteur Honoris Causa from the Free University of Brussels for his achievements. Deleuze's impact on twentieth century French philosophy is undeniable. He was greatly influential to contemporary philosophers such as Jacques Derrida and Gilles Lipovetsky among many others. Additionally, his works are still widely studied today. He will be remembered fondly and deeply missed by his family, friends, colleagues, and admirers.
