Gig Young, born Byron Elsworth Barr on November 4, 1913 in St. Cloud, Minnesota, passed away on October 19, 1978, at the age of 64. A Hollywood actor, producer, and director, Young graduated from the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York and began his career in theater. He later moved to Hollywood and made his big-screen debut in 1936 in The Legionnaire and the Lady. His impressive resume boasts a variety of film and television projects over the duration of his career. Young won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his performance in 1969's They Shoot Horses, Don't They? His other notable film credits include Teacher's Pet (1958), Cat Ballou (1965), and his last role in Greenwood County Line (1977). Apart from his career in film and television, Young was also a renowned producer and director, known for his work on MacKenna's Gold (1969) and his directorial debut of School for Unclaimed Girls (1975). Young is survived by his nephew. He will be remembered for his decades of hard work and dedication to the industry.
