On March 14th, 1932, George Eastman, a leader in the photography and film industry, passed away at the age of 77. Mr. Eastman will be remembered for his efforts in advancing the use of photography with the introduction of the Kodak camera in 1888 and easy-to-use film in 1889. He founded the Eastman Kodak Company in New Jersey in 1892 and went on to become one of the wealthiest industrialists of his day. In addition to his contributions to the industry, Mr. Eastman was a generous philanthropist, having donated millions of dollars towards educational, scientific, and religious institutions. He also initiated the first profit-sharing system in the United States for his employees. He will be remembered fondly by many for his philanthropy and his role in revolutionizing the field of photography.
