George A. Romero, iconic director and film pioneer, died on July 16th, 2017 at the age of 77. He is best known for his seminal horror films, most notably the 1968 classic Night of the Living Dead, which spawned a classic horror film franchise. Romero graduated from the Carnegie Mellon School of Drama after serving in the US Navy. After directing a few short films, Romero achieved critical and commercial success with his first feature film, Night of the Living Dead. This horror classic, shot in black and white, changed the landscape of horror movies, and made Romero a household name. Romero went on to direct several other classic horror films, both in his Living Dead series and outside the franchise. Romero's cinematic influence was vast, and his trademark mix of horror and social commentary continues to be seen in modern horror films today. Romero won several awards for his various films including the Grand Poet Award at the International Visual Poetry Festival. George A. Romero will be remembered as a horror movie visionary and one of the original masters of the genre. He was 77 years old.
