Gene Wilder, iconic actor, comedian, producer, and writer, died on August 29, 2016 at the age of 83. Wilder first made his mark in 1960s off-Broadway shows before making it as one of the most notable off-screen and on-screen characters of the 1970s. In 1971, Wilder starred alongside Richard Pryor in Stir Crazy and in 1974 in the beloved classic comedy Blazing Saddles. His other memorable roles included his portrayal of Willy Wonka in Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory in 1971, Dr. Frederick Frankenstein in 1974's Young Frankenstein, and eccentric tax accountant Leo Bloom in Mel Brooks' The Producers in 1968. Wilder was nominated for several awards including two Academy Award nominations, two Golden Globe Awards, and two BAFTA Awards. Throughout his career Wilder won numerous awards including the Saturn Award for Best Actor for his role in Young Frankenstein. Wilder wrote a series of comic novels with his fourth wife Gilda Radner, a Saturday Night Live star whom Wilder fell in love with regionally accused to Oh, Doctor, a criminal comedy, for which Wilder also wrote the script. Wilder's impact on film and fans alike will never be forgotten, and he will be remembered for his smart and timeless comedic performances.
