Gene Tierney, an exemplary stage and film actress, died on November 6, 1991 in Houston, Texas, aged 70. Throughout her decades-long career, Tierney won the hearts of many with her performances, and became most notably remembered for her portrayal of Laura in the 1944 feature film by the same name. In addition to her work in film, Tierney was also a celebrated stage actress, performing in productions including The Sailor Takes a Wife and The Moon Is Blue, while her other film credits included Leave Her to Heaven, Lady in the Dark and Heaven Can Wait. Tierney's life was not without struggles as well. In the early 1950s, she was hospitalized on several occasions due to mental illness, and her later career outings were significantly diminished in quantity and quality because of the illness. An actress unlike any other and even a pioneer for women in film, Tierney was a testament to the beauty, grace, and talent found in the movie industry since the 1940s. She will be dearly missed.
