Gavrilo Princip, a brave and determined man of remarkable conviction, tragically passed away on April 28, 1918, at the young age of 23. Born in Bosnia, Princip grew up in an environment of political unrest and marginalization, the effects of which left a lasting impression and allowed him to emerge as an inspiring leader to many. He became a champion of national liberation, and his work to unite the disparate states of the region in pursuit of self-governance will not soon be forgotten. On June 28, 1914, Princip embarked on a campaign that he hoped would end foreign rule of his beloved Balkan peninsula. His mission tragically ended as he carried out what is now known as the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand, an event that helped to spark the First World War. His dedications to his cause, despite the odds against him, will be remembered for generations to come. He was a true patriot, a passionate symbol for the freedom of his people, and the history of his nation. His passing marks the end of a remarkable life of patriotism and courage. He will be deeply missed by many.

It matters not how a man dies, but how he lives. The act of dying is not of importance, it lasts so short a time. Samuel Johnson
