Gale Gordon, beloved actor and beloved character of stage and screen, passed away on June 30th, 1995 in Los Angeles, California. He was 89. Born Charles Thomas Aldrich, Jr. on February 20, 1906 in New York, New York, Gordon was a Broadway veteran, appearing in both comedies and musicals. He was memorable for roles in the musicals “Anything Goes” and “The Red Mill” along with a featured role in the 1967 movie “The Happiest Millionaire.” His career spanned over half a century, appearing in countless television shows throughout his lifetime. His first breakthrough, however, was when he co-starred with Lucille Ball on “My Favorite Husband” and the “I Love Lucy” show. In the ‘50s and ‘60s, Gordon was perhaps most famous for his appearances on “The Lucy Show”, “My Three Sons,” “Ozzie & Harriet,” "Leave It To Beaver,” and “The Rifleman.” He was a genuinely humorous actor who liked to work hard, enjoyed a good laugh, and was never late for work. His wry facial expressions coupled with his signature gruff voice made him an unforgettable character in the hearts and minds of so many. Gale Gordon left behind a legacy of joy and laughter. He will be remembered fondly by his fans for his many beloved TV roles. He was preceded in death by his wife, Martha.
