Freddy Heineken, 78, passed away on January 3rd, 2002. Freddy was born on November 4th, 1923 in Amsterdam, Netherlands. He was a prominent businessperson and entrepreneur, best known as the chairman of the board at Heineken International. Freddy joined the family business at Heineken in the 1950s and rose to become the board chairman, which continued until his death. He was responsible for the significant growth of the business, expanding its production and its presence worldwide. Of his many accomplishments in this role, the most notable was the introduction of the Heineken® bottle which is now available in over 170 countries. He also made a lasting impact on the art and leisure communities in Amsterdam, establishing the first open-air theater and sponsoring the Amsterdam Fashion Week, among other contributions. Freddy will be remembered for his passion for hard work, business acumen, and generous spirit. He leaves behind his wife, Lucille Cummins, two children, and four grandchildren.
