On April 12, 1945, at the age of 63, Franklin Delano Roosevelt, the 32nd President of the United States, passed away in Warm Springs, Georgia. Born in Hyde Park, New York on January 30, 1882, Franklin invaded politics at an early age, notably serving two terms in the New York Senate. In 1920, he was nominated as the Democratic Vice Presidential running mate to Ohio Governor James Cox, and four years later, at the age of 42, he was elected as the President of the United States. He won four presidential elections during his tenure, making him the only President to do so. During his presidency, FDR enacted many programs to help average citizens. Also known as the "New Deal," these programs helped millions of people overcome the hardships of the Great Depression and in 1938, he helped to establish Social Security. In 1941, he backed the Allies in World War II and approved the creation of the United Nations in 1945. Franklin will be remembered as a leader who cared deeply for people and a champion of a stronger America. He helped turn a nation in crisis into a powerful global force. He was married to his beloved wife Eleanor Roosevelt. He leaves behind four children: James, Elliott, Franklin, and John. Franklin will be deeply missed by his family and the nation.
