Frank Sinatra, the legendary American singer, actor, and producer, died on May 14, 1998, at the age of 82. Over the course of a career that spanned more than 50 years, he made an indelible mark on American culture. Sinatra was born in Hoboken, New Jersey, in 1915. Growing up in a musical family, it came as no surprise that Sinatra eventually followed in their footsteps and pursued a career in music. His singing career began in 1935, when he formed a vocal group with three friends and started performing in small venues. He signed with Columbia Records in 1943 and released a slew of hit songs, becoming one of the most popular singers of the 1940s and 1950s. It was during this time that Sinatra achieved widespread commercial success and became an international superstar. He also made his film debut in 1941 and earned an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor in 1954 for his performance in From Here to Eternity. He continued singing and acting throughout his career, appearing in more than 50 films and releasing 60 studio albums, winning 11 Grammy awards along the way. Sinatra's influence extended far beyond the world of music and film. He was an immense philanthropist, giving generously to those in need over the course of his lifetime. He also received numerous honors, including a Legend Award from the Recording Academy in 1980, a Kennedy Center Honors Award in 1983, and the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 1985. He is survived by his children, Nancy, Frank Jr., and Tina, as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He will be fondly remembered for his charisma and love of music, and his contributions to American culture will never be forgotten.
