Frank Morgan, a legendary actor best known for his iconic role as the Wizard in the 1939 classic film The Wizard of Oz, passed away on September 18, 1949 at the age of 59. Most known for his work on The Wizard of Oz, Morgan appeared in over 100 films throughout his career. Born Francis Wuppermann in New York City, Morgan began his acting career at the age of 14 in theater and later ventured into motion pictures. In 1930, he was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his work in The Czar of Broadway, and he received an honorary Academy Award in 1945. A beloved and well-known celebrity of his time, Morgan will be remembered for his warmth and friendly demeanor both on and off stage. Beyond his renowned work as an actor, he was a devoted husband and father to his family.
