It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Oystein Aarseth, better known as Euronymous, on August 10, 1993. He was 25 years old. Euronymous was a Norwegian black metal musician and owner of Helvete record shop. He was a founding member and guitarist of Mayhem, one of the seminal bands of the black metal scene and a member of the scene's "inner circle". He popularized many extreme metal styles and was an important figure of the Norwegian black metal scene. Euronymous is remembered by his friends, family, and fans as a talented musician and clever entrepreneur, who made a lasting impact on the metal music scene. He will be deeply missed.
