Erwin Schrödinger, one of the most influential physicists of the 20th century, passed away on January 4, 1961 in Vienna, Austria. He was 73 years old. A native of Vienna, Erwin studied at the University of Vienna, earning his PhD at the age of 21. He then taught at various universities, such as Stuttgart, Zurich, and Berlin. He is best remembered for his contributions to the development of quantum theory and wave mechanics, which earned him a Nobel Prize in Physics in 1933. His seminal works on the topic revolutionized the field of theoretical physics. At the outbreak of WWII he moved to Oxford, and later stayed at the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton, where he was a professor from 1939 to 1956. He left behind an invaluable legacy in the realm of quantum mechanics and explorations of the foundations of quantum physics. He will be remembered as one of the world's greatest physicists.
