Emilie was born in Alt Moletein, Austria-Hungary in 1908. During World War II, Emilie and her husband, the well-known Oscar Schindler, courageously saved the lives of more than 1,200 people from certain death in Nazi concentration camps, for which Schindler was posthumously honored with the Righteous Among the Nations distinction by the state of Israel. After the war she worked tirelessly as a philanthropist and advocate for those who had suffered during the Holocaust. In her later years, Emilie resided in the German city of Zwickau, where she founded the Oskar Schindler Humanitarian Foundation in order to keep alive her late husband's legacy and to help those affected by the Holocaust. She received honors and recognition for her selfless contributions throughout her lifetime, including an Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany. Emilie's work and legacy will live on forever in the hearts of those whose lives she impacted. She will be remembered as a brave and courageous figure devoted to the cause of fighting injustice wherever, and to whomever, it is applied.
