On Wednesday, October 21, 2003, Elliott Smith passed away suddenly at 34 years old. In the short span of his life, Elliott's musical career was incredibly influential. The singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and producer released five critically acclaimed solo albums, as well as working on the acclaimed soundtrack to the 2000 film, "Good Will Hunting." His greatest achievements included the records XO and Figure 8, both of which received nominations for the Grammy Awards. Elliott's affecting songwriting often addressed struggles with depression and addiction, to which he would ultimately succumb. His tracks found success beyond just underground music circles, finding placement in a range of films, television shows, and advertisements. Elliott Smith is survived by family, friends, and fans worldwide. He will be forever remembered for his kind spirit and prodigious musical talent.
