Eddie Van Halen, widely celebrated guitarist, composer, and songwriter, passed away on October 6, 2020, at the age of 65. Born in Amsterdam, Netherlands on January 26, 1955, Eddie first began playing classical piano at age 6 and became a self-taught guitarist three years later. His career took off with the formation of the band Van Halen, which he co-founded with his brother Alex in 1974. Van Halen's unique sound, combining hard rock, blues and classical music, soon became popular and the band gained worldwide recognition. Eddie was popularly known for his use of two-handed tapping, a classic rock technique he infused into his hard-rock tunes that shaped his reputation as an innovative musician and created an inimitable style of playing. Eddie released 12 albums with Van Halen throughout his career, and worked with several musical acts, including Michael Jackson and Cher. In 2007, Eddie was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame for his artistic influence across the world and particularly within the rock music community. These accolades continued to follow him throughout his career, and in 2017 he was awarded the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of his exceptional artistic achievements. Eddie and his music will continue to live on, remembered as an inspiring figure to musicians and fans across the world. He was a pioneer in the music industry and his contributions to the industry will never be forgotten.
