Edd Byrnes, an actor best known for his 1950's television role as Kookie in the late-night crime drama 77 Sunset Strip, has died on January 8, 2020. He was 86 years old. Born July 30, 1933, to victims of the Great Depression, Edd became an American icon for his cool, greaser demeanor in 77 Sunset Strip. During his time in the show, which notably ran from 1958 to 1964, he made numerous appearances in records and magazines. In addition to 77 Sunset Strip, Byrnes also appeared in a number of movies and TV shows, including Grease, Surfside 6, Psycho IV: The Beginning, Star Trek, and Wagon Train. He was also known for his role in the film Gidget in 1959. Byrnes was married to actress Kathleen Kinmont for nine years, and is survived by a son, Logan Byrnes, and a daughter, Tyler Byrnes.
