Ed King, 68, passed away peacefully at home on August 22nd, 2018. Ed was born in 1950 and grew up in the Pacific Northwest. He had a passion for music from an early age, and developed an affinity for the guitar which followed him throughout his life. He graduated from high school in 1968 and went on to study music at a nearby college. Over the course of his career, Ed King was a well-known musician and songwriter. He was a founding member of several bands, including Strawberry Alarm Clock, and joined Lynyrd Skynyrd as lead guitarist in 1972. He co-wrote some of the band's most popular songs, such as "Sweet Home Alabama" and "Saturday Night Special." Ed was also an accomplished session musician, playing on albums for music artists such as Peter Frampton, Rita Coolidge and Bob Seger. Ed King enjoyed writing and recording music, and was a talented live performer. He was an inspiring leader and mentor to fellow musicians. He was a beloved husband, father, and grandfather. His legacy will continue to live on through his music and the memories he left behind. He will be deeply missed.
