Legendary actor Ed Asner passed away on 2021-08-29, aged 91. His career spanned seven decades, and Asner was well known for his roles on television, film, and stage. He was best known for his iconic portrayal of Lou Grant on the television sitcom “The Mary Tyler Moore Show”, which ran from 1970 to 1977, and on its spin-off “Lou Grant”, which aired from 1977 to 1982. He was also known for his role as Santa Claus in the holiday classic “Elf”, his Emmy Award-winning performance in the 1999 television movie “Rudy: The Rudy Giuliani Story”, and his voice work in the Pixar film “Up”. Asner was widely recognized for his activism, and was a founding member of the Screen Actors Guild. He was also a member of the Directors Guild of America, the Producers Guild of America, and the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists. In addition to his professional accolades, Asner was a devoted husband to his wife, Actress Caney Asner, and a loving father to his two children. He will be remembered for his blockbuster performances, activism, and love.
