It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Duane Allman, one of the greatest guitarists in American music history. He died on October 29th, 1971 at the age of 24. Duane Allman was born in Nashville, Tennessee and was considered one of the greatest guitarists of the 20th century. His lengthy career began at age 15, where he joined a rock band in Daytona Beach; from there he moved on to an array of projects and bands, including the Allman Brothers Band, which he founded alongside his brother Greg Allman in 1969. His work with the Allman Brothers Band, along with his engagement with rock, jazz and classical styles of music, gave Duane Allman a unique demonstration of both virtuosity and some of the most famous guitar tones and solos in the history of American music. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1995 alongside the Allman Brothers Band. Duane Allman's impact on the guitar and its style of play can still be felt today. His passion, his skill, and his influence will live on for years to come.
