Dianne Goldman Berman Feinstein (née Feinstein; 1933- 2023-09-29), an American politician, passed away on 2023-09-29 at the age of 90. She was born in San Francisco to Betty and Leon Goldman in 1933, and was educated at both Stanford University and University of California, Hastings College of the Law. Feinstein was the longest-serving female Senator in American history, and the first woman to serve as both Senator and President Pro Tempore of the Senate. She was first elected to the Senate in 1992, and served in the Senate for six consecutive terms during her career. Feinstein was the Mayor of San Francisco between 1978 and 1988, during which time she initiated a major earthquake protection programme and established domestic-partner and ASSIST benefits. During the 1990s, she was instrumental in the passage and legislative success of the assault weapons ban and the Brady Bill. Outside of public office, she was the chairperson for the San Francisco Commission on the Status of Women in 1976 and co-founded the California Women's Leadership Association. Feinstein is survived by her husband, Richard Blum, her children Katherine and Gregory Feinstein, and four grandchildren. The family of Feinstein ask for privacy during this difficult time.
