Legendary British entertainer Des O'Connor died on November 14th, 2020 at the age of 88. Born Desmond Bernard O'Connor on January 12th, 1932, he was an award-winning comedian, presenter, and singer. During a career spanning more than 50 years, O'Connor hosted many popular shows, including 'The Des O'Connor Show', 'Des O'Connor Tonight' and 'Today with Des and Mel'. He also appeared on countless game shows, chat shows, and variety shows. O'Connor was well known for his singing career in which he released 37 albums and earned 4 silver and 4 gold discs. His version of 'Careless Whisper' became a gold-selling single and a number one hit in the UK. O'Connor received many awards throughout his career, including comedy awards and honorary degrees, and he was acknowledged by the Queen in 2003 when he was awarded a CBE for services to entertainment. He was also made an honorary life president of The Magic Circle in 2008. He was married four times and is survived by one son and four daughters. He is fondly remembered as one of Britain's favourite entertainers.
