Dennis Nilsen passed away on May 12, 2018 at the age of 72. He was a British serial killer, who is responsible for the murders of at least twelve men and boys, committed in London between 1978 and 1983. Born in Fraserburgh, Scotland in 1945, Nilsen served in the British Army and worked as a civil servant after his discharge. In 1978, he moved into an address in his position as a civil servant, known as 21D Cranley Gardens, Muswell Hill, London, where many of his later murders would take place. Nilsen was arrested in 1983 and subsequently convicted at trial of six counts of Murder and two of Attempted Murder. He was sentenced to life in prison, with a recommendation that he should never be released. He spent the rest of his life behind bars, and upon his death, Nilsen’s ashes were scattered in an undisclosed location within the confines of the jail.
