Debbie Reynolds, beloved film legend and beloved mother and grandmother, died at age 84 on December 28, 2016, surrounded by her loving family. The actress was born in El Paso, Texas to Maxine and Raymond Reynolds. Her introduction to show business began at the age of 16 when she won the "Miss Burbank" beauty contest, followed by a contract with Warner Bros. which launched her on the path to stardom. Reynolds appeared in a variety of films, including the 1952 classic Singin' in the Rain, which is considered one of the greatest movies of all time. Other acclaimed roles included The Affairs of Dobie Gillis, Bundle of Joy, How the West Was Won, and Tammy and the Bachelor. Most recently she received a nomination for a Best Actress Oscar for her role in 1964's The Unsinkable Molly Brown, and was awarded the SAG Lifetime Achievement Award in 2015. Offscreen she was equally as successful. Her hospitality enterprise, which included the Debbie Reynolds Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, established her as a savvy businesswoman. Later, her Debbie Reynolds Dance Studios became a major force in the industry, training many of the world's top talents. Reynolds will be greatly missed by her three children, including her eldest daughter, Carrie Fisher, who died from cardiac arrest just one day before her mother's passing. Bob Iger, chairman and chief executive officer of The Walt Disney Company, expressed gratitude for her life, saying, "The Cheryls and I wish to express our profound sadness at the passing of Debbie Reynolds, an incomparable talent and a true superstar."
