David Lloyd George, one of the most influential politicians in Great Britain in the 20th century, died on March 26th 1945, at the age of 82. Lloyd George was born in Manchester, England in 1863. He studied at the University of Wales, practiced law in Wales, and entered politics in 1890, representing a Welsh constituency in Parliament. He was appointed Chancellor of the Exchequer in 1908 and Prime Minister in 1916, serving until 1922. During his time as Prime Minister, he championed new legislation and introduced reform measures, such as the National Insurance Act 1911, for which he is most remembered. During the course of his career, he helped establish the League of Nations, negotiated the treaty of Versailles, oversaw the introduction of the Representation of the People Act 1918, and provided leadership during the First World War. Throughout his life, he was known for his energetic style and political acumen. He was described by a fellow politician as "the greatest organizer of victory the modern world has ever seen." Lloyd George is survived by his wife Margaret, his daughters Megan and Gwilym, and his sons David, Gwilym and Richard. Funeral services will take place on April 1st at St. Paul's Church in London. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Wales in David Lloyd George's memory.
