David Graf, a well-known and highly respected actor, passed away on April 7, 2001 at the age of 50. He was best known for his portrayal of Sergeant Eugene Tackleberry in the popular Police Academy movies, as well as his numerous other roles in film and television.
Born on April 16, 1950 in Lancaster, Ohio, Graf was raised in a military family and spent much of his childhood moving around the United States. He attended high school in Iowa before attending Otterbein College in Ohio, where he earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree.
Graf began his acting career in the early 1980s, appearing in various theater productions before making his film debut in 1981 in the comedy The Concrete Jungle. He went on to star in several other films, including The Brady Bunch Movie, Guarding Tess, and Rules of Engagement.
However, it was his role as the gun-loving, slightly unhinged Sergeant Tackleberry in the Police Academy series that brought Graf widespread recognition and cemented his place in Hollywood. He reprised the role in all seven sequels to the original film.
In addition to his successful film career, Graf also made appearances on numerous television shows, including The West Wing, Star Trek: Voyager, and Murder, She Wrote.
