On September 12, 2008, the world lost a unique and beloved artist and writer, David Foster Wallace. He passed away at the age of 46. David was born and raised in Illinois and went on to write a wide variety of pieces, from essays and short stories, to novels and even television criticism. He was known for his complex literary style and often humorous works that explored difficult themes. Many of these works were highly acclaimed and won numerous awards, including the MacArthur Fellowship and a PEN/Faulkner Award. In addition to his literary achievements, David had great interest in mathematics, philosophy, and linguistics. He earned a BA from Amherst College, MA from the University of Arizona, and eventually a PhD in English from University of Arizona. His distinctive talent and intelligence, a calm nature, and an impressive wit were admired by those who knew him. He inspired many in the literary community, and his impact on the world will not be forgotten. David Foster Wallace will be deeply missed by all.
