It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of David Amess, of Essex, England, on October 15, 2021, at the age of 69. A local politician, David served as Member of Parliament for Basildon and Southend East for three decades, from 1997 until 2021, after first being elected in the 1992 general election. He was a passionate advocate of his constituency and a true public servant. David was known for his thoughtful and measured work, always putting the needs of the people of his constituency first. He was active in many areas, including health necessities, welfare, the economy, and housing. David was a great family man, a loving husband, and an enthusiastic grandfather. He is survived by his wife Elizabeth, son Christopher, daughter Laura, and four grandchildren. The loss of this beloved figure has caused great sadness amongst those who knew him and the wider public. He will be remembered for his dedication to his beloved constituency, his commitment to public service, and his incredible character and faith.
