The world lost a great author with the passing of Daphne du Maurier on April 19, 1989. She was 81 years of age. Du Maurier was born in London, England in 1907. Her father was an actor and her mother an author. Du Maurier's writing career blossomed in the 1930s and continued for decades until her death. She wrote memorable works such as Rebecca, Jamaica Inn, and Frenchman's Creek. Her writing was described as “romantic but with a hint of the sinister”. She received numerous awards and accolades throughout her career, including a Commander of the British Empire (CBE) in 1969. Du Maurier was a master storyteller whose work is still read by millions of readers around the world today. Du Maurier is survived by her children Tessa, Flavia, and Christian. She will be greatly missed.
