Danny Rolling, the Florida serial killer known as the "Gainesville Ripper," died on October 25, 2006, at the age of 52. Rolling was born in Shreveport, Louisiana, and spent most of his life in the state until he moved to Gainesville, Florida in 1990. During his time in Gainesville, he committed a series of gruesome killings that earned him his nickname. Between August 24, 1990 and August 28, 1990, Rolling killed five college students in their Gainesville homes. Rolling was arrested in November of 1990 and confessed to the murders, as well as two previous ones in Louisiana and an attempted murder in Florida. He was put on trial for the murders and was convicted of all counts in 1994. He was sentenced to death that same year and was executed twelve years later by lethal injection. Rolling's death will bring closure to the families of the five victims, who endured decades of heartache and anguish from his actions. He will be remembered as one of the most notorious serial killers in US history.
