Danny Aiello, beloved actor and philanthropist, passed away on December 12, 2019 at the age of 86. He was born in Manhattan, New York in 1933. Danny is remembered for his many memorable roles in film including his Academy Award nominated leading role in Do The Right Thing (1988). His other major film credits include The Godfather Part II (1974), The Purple Rose of Cairo (1985), and Moonstruck (1987). His television credits include his Emmy-nominated performance on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit (2002) and guest spots on The Big Bang Theory, His life’s work led him to be awarded the Saturn Award for Best Supporting Actor in 1990 and 2013. In addition to his acting career, Danny was a devoted philanthropist. His charitable causes included The Children’s Aid Society, the Make-A-Wish Foundation, plus he established his own Scholarship Foundation to help underprivileged students. Danny was preceded in death by his first wife Sandy Cohen. He is survived by his wife of 45 years Stacey in addition to numerous family members. Danny’s humor, kindness, and generosity will never be forgotten. He will forever be remembered for his contribution to the film and television industry, and his tireless commitment to philanthropy. He will be deeply missed.
