Constantine I of Greece (1868-1923) passed away on January 11, 1923 at the age of 54. Born on August 2, 1868 at the Tatoi Palace near Athens, Constantine I was the son of King George I and Olga Constantinovna of Russia. He succeeded his father in 1913 when he was proclaimed king of Greece. During his reign, Constantine I led the nation in the Balkan Wars of 1912-1913 before being forced to abdicate in June 1917. After the war, he and part of the royal family were exiled from the country. He is also remembered for his work to improve relations between the Greek Orthodox Church and the state. He had two sons, George II of Greece and Alexander of Greece, as well as four daughters—Princess Helen, Princess Katherine, Princess Irene, and Princess Aspasia. Constantine I of Greece passed away on January 11, 1923, leaving behind a legacy of a strong commitment to the nation of Greece and the Orthodox faith.
